About Defence Institute of Bio-Energy Research (DIBER)

Defence Institute of Bio-Energy Research (DIBER) is a laboratory of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in India that is focused on research and development related to bio-energy, herbal medicine, and biotechnology.

DIBER is located in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, and was established in 1998. Its primary objective is to develop technologies related to bio-energy, bioprospecting, and conservation of bioresources for national security and environmental sustainability.

DIBER’s research efforts have led to the development of several products, including herbal medicines for the treatment of various ailments, biodegradable packaging materials, and biogas generators. Additionally, the institute conducts research on the use of biofuels as an alternative to fossil fuels, which has significant implications for national energy security.
